Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find some questions that we are asked time and again.

If you can't find an answer relevant to you, please Contact Us.

Q: Do you develop ladies and men's collections?

A: Yes, we develop both.

Q: Who do you manufacture for?

A: We work with a select group of top fashion designers, with long established relationships going back over 20 years. Client confidentiality assures that their names, or yours, would not be disclosed.

Q: Do you produce your knitwear offshore?

A: No. Our entire operation is based at our Ladylaw Mill factory in Hawick, Scotland.

Q: Do you work with retailers or designer brands?

A: We work with both. The service that we offer is suited to retailers, as well as designer brands - with different aspects of our service being attractive to each.

Q: Do you have minimum order quantities?

A: We aim to achieve a ratio of 75 units per style developed over the course of the season. I.e. If we produce a 10 piece collection, we would expect to receive total orders of 750 units minimum - but this may be split over different sizes & colours and comprise of separate orders & deliveries. However, we require all of these orders to be placed at the same time.

Q: What is your production capacity?

A: Our production capacity is around 10,000 garments per year. We're interested in working with customers who would be looking for 500 to 2500 units per year.

Q: Do you charge sample development fees?

A: We charge a standard development fee of £1000 per style. This is payable before any development work commences. This fee covers the following development work (not the actual garments);

  1. Prototype development
  2. One round of minor alterations
  3. Production grading

Each prototype is charged at the calculated production cost.

Excessive alterations will incur an additional £500 charge per round of alterations.

Changes to body type, body fabric and/or stitch structure will incur a new development fee, as this would then be a new style.

Q: What are your ex. works price points?

A: All styles are priced on a time / material costing basis, therefore price will vary hugely between styles. Indicative ex. works prices based on historical averages are as follows - remember, these will vary based on size and complexity;

  • 12 gauge plain - £110 to £150
  • 12 gauge structure - £130 to £200
  • 12 gauge intarsia - £140 to £220
  • 8 gauge plain - £120 to £160
  • 8 gauge structure - £130 to £210
  • 7 gauge plain - £120 to £170
  • 7 gauge structure - £130 to £210

Q: What is your order turnaround time?

A: We will work with you to structure delivery when you need it. It is possible to reserve production space based on estimated orders. For top ups and re-orders we can generally fulfil in 4 – 6 weeks.

Q: What information do you need from me?

A: We will require a detailed specification. We also have an extensive body shape and stitch structure library which you are welcome to make use of.

We also need to understand your business so that we can determine if we are a good fit for each other – in terms of overall business size, growth plans and expectations. We are only interested in establishing long term mutually beneficial relationships.

Q: How quickly can I get my samples?

A: Autumn / Winter and Spring / Summer ranges are peak periods which require careful planning. We will work with you on the critical path to ensure that your samples are with you in time for showing / selling.

Outside of peak periods – once we have all the information required we can generally have samples to you in 2 to 3 weeks.

Q: What are your payment terms?

A: Initially, payment terms would be Pro-Forma for a period of 12 months. We can then discuss payment terms after this initial period.
